Well Ubuntu is now chugging through a dist-upgrade in the background to bring me dapper. This is the kind of thing I love Debian for, you can always rely on it pretty much working when you a dist-upgrade after a cock-eyed installation procedure. I hope this does. I have been really impressed by Ubuntu's hardware autodetection. I guess it's great when it works, and it did on my pretty basic old p3 workhorse. I used breezy for a few days and found the default environment pretty easy to use, but I found it hid a bit too much detail for me.
